Network Rehabilitation Program – Mainland 7 (Abu Dhabi)

Project Description

This urban sewer network suffered from high infiltration during seasonal groundwater rise, combined with salinity contamination damaging concrete structures and affecting plant efficiency.

Client: TAQA Water Solutions
Project No.: O-15213
Location: Mohammed Bin Zayed (MBZ) City
Consultant: Dorsch

Challenge:

  • Infiltration mainly through pipeline joints spread over a large residential area

  • Traditional open-cut repairs would require road closure permits, diversions, and cause major disruption to residents

PHOTO-2026-05-07-15-12-06

Solution & Result:

Through targeted CCTV inspections and precise gel grouting at leaking joints, all infiltration points were sealed without surface disturbance. Post-rehabilitation monitoring confirmed complete elimination of saline water ingress, restoring network integrity and extending service life.

Network Rehabilitation – Miscellaneous Projects (Abu Dhabi City – Part 2)

Project Description

The network experienced localized infiltration at manhole connections and joint defects, leading to elevated salinity at the treatment plant.

Client: TAQA Water Solutions
Project No.: O-15397
Location: MBZ City
Consultant: Stantec

Challenge:

  • Restricted access in high-traffic areas

  • Open-cut repairs would have meant major road excavation, traffic disruption, and long reinstatement periods

PHOTO-2026-04-30-08-34-37

Solution & Result:

Gel grouting was applied internally at the source of infiltration. Its flexibility and durability ensured a long-term watertight seal, completely mitigating saline ingress without disturbing surface infrastructure.

Salinity Monitoring and Control in Catchment 11-Mirfa

Project Description

The sewer network in Mirfa City faced severe infiltration from groundwater and elevated salinity levels due to seawater ingress through defective joints and cracks in aging pipelines. These defects increased pumping loads, treatment costs, and corrosion risk to downstream infrastructure.

Client: TAQA Water Solutions
Project No.: O-15015
Location: Al Dhafra Region – Mirfa City
Consultant: KN International

Challenge:

  • Persistent joint infiltration from surrounding saline groundwater
  • If repaired by open-cut, it would require road cutting, traffic diversion, and incur high cost and extended downtime
  • Maintaining continuous flow during rehabilitation works
PHOTO-2026-03-07-12-03-08

Solution & Result:

Using chemical gel grouting technology, we sealed the joints internally without excavation. The gel grout formed a watertight barrier, eliminating infiltration and significantly reducing salinity levels, ensuring optimal operation of pumping stations and treatment facilities.
