Salinity Monitoring and Control in Catchment 11-Mirfa
Project Description
The sewer network in Mirfa City faced severe infiltration from groundwater and elevated salinity levels due to seawater ingress through defective joints and cracks in aging pipelines. These defects increased pumping loads, treatment costs, and corrosion risk to downstream infrastructure.
Client: TAQA Water Solutions
Project No.: O-15015
Location: Al Dhafra Region – Mirfa City
Consultant: KN International
Challenge:
- Persistent joint infiltration from surrounding saline groundwater
- If repaired by open-cut, it would require road cutting, traffic diversion, and incur high cost and extended downtime
- Maintaining continuous flow during rehabilitation works

Solution & Result:
Using chemical gel grouting technology, we sealed the joints internally without excavation. The gel grout formed a watertight barrier, eliminating infiltration and significantly reducing salinity levels, ensuring optimal operation of pumping stations and treatment facilities.
